Why Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez are absent for Chelsea vs Brentford

The Chelsea duo of Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez have been left out of the squad to play Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.

The official explanation for their absence it that both players have “small muscle strains”.

Blues boss, Mauricio Pochettino confirmed the minor injuries in his pre-match interview while Fernandez’s absence was also due to his partner giving birth this week.

Mudryk’s omission is a blow for Chelsea with the Ukraine international having registered two goals in his last three Premier League games.

‘Both of them felt a small muscle strain yesterday, but I hope they will be available for the next game,’ Pochettino told TNT Sports.

‘It’s not a big issue, should be fixed in the next few days. We are going to miss both of them as they are very good players, but we have a very big squad to cope with that.

‘Yes maybe [the arrival of the new baby for Enzo Fernandez] was the reason he could not train and felt uncomfortable yesterday. But he is going to rest now and recover as quick as possible.’
