Minister of Works, Mr. David Umahi, Initiates Talks with Hitech Construction Company for Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Project

During a meeting with engineers from the Federal Ministry of Works and the contractor’s team in Lagos, Minister David Umahi discussed plans for the proposed Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project. He emphasized that this ambitious project would significantly enhance interconnectivity throughout the nation and reflected President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to Nigeria’s rapid development and restoration.

Minister Umahi expressed that President Tinubu was eager to expedite the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, and this initial meeting marked the beginning of discussions. A follow-up meeting in two weeks will aim to finalize agreements for the commencement of construction.

The project is set to be a Public Private Partnership and will be tolled upon completion, with the contractor already securing the necessary funding. It will be developed in phases, with completed sections being opened to traffic and toll collection.

The proposed highway will link various key routes, including the Lagos-Badagry Expressway superhighway, the proposed Fourth Mainland Bridge Lekki Deep Sea Port Road, and Ogoja-Ikom, creating connections across Northern Nigeria. The project will cover an initial design length of approximately 650 to 700 kilometers and include rail lines running in the center of the main carriageways.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project aims to boost tourism and establish industrial clusters, including hotels, factories, housing estates, and other facilities. Notably, the road will be constructed with 11-inch thick concrete and 20-millimeter reinforcement, highlighting its durability and innovation. Minister Umahi hailed this project as a testament to Nigeria’s capabilities, with President Bola Tinubu leading the way towards revitalization.
